Memphis Kiddie Park opened on May 28, 1952. The park was one of several designed and operated by Stuart Wintner. Wintner decided to open his amusement parks after reading articles on the industry in Billboard magazine. Encouraged by the success of Memphis Kiddie Park, Whitner went on to also open parks in Philadelphia and Columbus. Memphis Kiddie Park was the only one that proved financially sustainable though. Today, the park remains in operation and is owned by Wintner's son. Throughout the years the park has added food stands, an arcade, and a miniature golf course (which was another of Wintner's passions) all the while never charging for admission or parking, and offering rides for a reasonable cost.
