Lydia Davis Wallace (1839-1878)

Lydia Davis Wallace (1839-1878)
Born in Ohio to parents Samuel and Judith Davis, who had migrated here from Massachusetts in 1839, Lydia married Robert Wallace in Cleveland in 1862. According to Rev. Henry Tenney's 1911 eulogy of Robert Wallace, Lydia was plagued with serious health issues which prompted her husband to abandon his career as a sailor on the Great Lakes and open a small machine shop in Cleveland in 1866. Lydia gave birth to six children (including one stillborn) between 1862 and 1876. She died in Cleveland in 1878 at the age of 39. She is buried at Cleveland's Riverside Cemetery.
