Expanding Automobile Row

Expanding Automobile Row
This 1937 photograph of Chester Avenue, taken from the northwest corner of East 13th Street, shows that the gas stations, tire stores, and other automotive service shops that two decades earlier had been limited to Chester Avenue east of East 21st Street, were now present closer to downtown. On the left of the photograph you can see a Sinclair Gas Station and on the right a Studebaker showroom. By this year, such businesses "dotted" Chester Avenue from East 13th to East 30th Street. | Source: Cleveland Public Library, Photograph Collection
