Noting a list of code violations "probably the longest of any structure in Shaker Heights," Beth-El's congregation determined it was no longer feasible to operate out of the facility at 15808 Chagrin Boulevard. In 1998, the City of Shaker Heights purchased the synagogue for $150,000. The City sold the property to the Shaker Community Credit Union for $150,000 in 2004, with the understanding that the site would undergo $500,000 worth of improvements.
