Temple Beth-El, 1957

Temple Beth-El, 1957
Upon its dedication in 1957, Temple Beth-El was the only built synagogue in Shaker Heights. Two other buildings, however, had been dedicated for use by the Kinsman-Lee Jewish community since 1950. A home on Lee Road was purchased by the Jewish Community Center for use as a civic center in February of 1950. In 1954, the Center renovated a nearby rental property for use as a Drama Center and hall. Over Beth-El's many years of construction, the congregation regularly used these buildings for meetings, banquets and fundraisers. The Drama Center would be purchased by the Ohel Jacob Yavnhe Congregation for use as a synagogue in November, 1957. | Source: Cleveland State University, Michael Schwartz Library, Special Collections
