Demolition

Demolition
The purchase and subsequent demolition of the old Elysium was fraught with opposition. The opposition complained that the asking price of roughly $338,000 was a "tremendous amount to pay just to clear up an eyesore." Those in favor, however, pointed to "the concentration of cultural, education and medical institutions in the University Circle area ... and urged that the city acquire the Elysium property to serve as a park gateway to that area." | Creator: Bernie Noble | Date: 1953 | Source: Cleveland Public Library Photograph Collection
