Junior Mine Planters on the Rocky River

Junior Mine Planters on the Rocky River
As a defense against enemies breaching strategic coastal areas, minefields were laid that could be controlled from the shore through control panels. Ships known as mine planters maintained the fields, and were specially designed to lay cable, place junction boxes, and set mines. The 98-foot Junior Mine Planters built at the Rocky River Dry Dock Co. provided assistance to these vessels in the mine laying and retrieval process. | Source: Image courtesy of Cleveland Metroparks
