"Moses Cleaveland as a Florist"

In its early years, the city's greenhouse complex was often referenced as being part of Gordon Park despite its location just to the south in Rockefeller Park. As this illustrated article notes, the greenhouses at the time held more than 55,000 plants grown from seeds or cuttings. The complex enabled the city to forego having to hire commercial florists to beautify parks and boulevards.
