A church to the rescue

After the Cleveland School Board discontinued the school garden program at the Zverina Log House property in 1978, pastor Ralph Fotia of the nearby Shaffer United Methodist Church volunteered to care for the Log House and gardens on the property. He and his staff did so until at least 1991. Shown in this 1987 photograph is Sandra Votanoff, a secretary at the church, who was using the Log house to teach the seated children from Miles public elementary school a story about the first Thanksgiving celebrated in America. | Date: 1987 | Source: Cleveland Public Library, Digital Newspaper Collection
