The Blessed Martin De Porres Catholic Worker House of Hospitality
The Blessed Martin De Porres House of Hospitality was an early Catholic Worker community at 2305 Franklin Avenue. The Martin De Porres House of Hospitality was founded sometime in the 1930s by William "Bill" Gauchat. Bill met Dorothy Schmitt who was a volunteer at the Martin De Porres House of Hospitality. The two married and maintained a close relationship with Dorothy Day. The Gauchats eventually opened Our Lady of the Wayside in Avon, Ohio, where they farmed the land and took care of children with special needs. | Creator: Fred Bottomer | Date: 1938 | Source: Cleveland Press Collection | Rights: Michael Schwartz Library Special Collections at Cleveland State University
