Food Administration Sign

Food Administration Sign
This Food Administration sign stood on the north side of Superior Avenue in the northwest quadrant of Public Square after the U.S.'s entry into World War I. Pictured behind the sign are (left to right): American Trust Building, Cuyahoga County Courthouse, and Illuminating Company Building. The sign reads: "Food will win the war - don't waste it" and "America's Problem: Ships and Food - To send the most Food possible in least shipping space. Solution: Eat less wheat, beef, pork, fats and sugar. Get behind our Soldiers, Sailors and Allies." Public Square was an ideal location for such a sign because of its central location. | Creator: National Photo Company | Date: ca. 1918 | Source: Library of Congress Prints and Photographs Division
