Getting to Know the Commercial Neighborhood

Getting to Know the Commercial Neighborhood
This section of the 1886-1887 Ohio Sanborn Map lists the names of many of the commercial buildings that once surrounded the Hilliard Building. Notably shown on the map are the three other commercial buildings which, like the Hilliard Building, stood on the east side of Water Street between St. Clair and Frankfort Avenues in the year the map was created. Those three (along with the year in which they were built) were: (1) the Payne Brothers Block (1869), the Vincent Block (1868), and the Board of Trade Building (1879). | Source: Cleveland Public Library, Digital Map Collection
