William A. Manning (1847-1937)
Born in Scotland to Irish parents, William A. Manning came to America with his family when he was just two years old. His family settled on the east side of Cleveland, but he moved to the west side in 1870 when he married West Sider Mary Devine, a second generation Irish-American. Manning became very active in St. Patrick's parish life and, in 1903, authored a history of the first fifty years of the parish which has become a memorial to the Irish immigrants who founded.
