San Francisco Earthquake Damage

The ordinance on building height after the 1909 tornado was not the first time a natural disaster had caused regulation changes. Following the 1906 San Francisco Earthquake it was found that buildings with reinforced internal structures survived and new ordinances were passed that approved the use of reinforced concrete. Steel framing was made a requirement in any new brick construction.
