In order for the city to start the RTA, a one-cent sales tax increase was needed. The one-cent increase, which would bring sales tax from 4.5% to 5.5%, would aid the long-term financial burden of the system. The voters overwhelmingly voted for the tax increase, a 99.48% approval, thus allowing plans for the implementation of the RTA to move forward.
