Announcing the Czechoslovak Republic

Announcing the Czechoslovak Republic
On October 30, 1918 edition, John Pankuch's Hlas newspaper published a front page article announcing that, on October 28, the Austria-Hungarian state had unconditionally surrendered and agreed to the dismantling of its empire, thereby paving the way to the official recognition of Czechoslovakia and the other new post-World War I states of Europe. Many members of Cleveland's Slovak community would have first learned about this event so important to their community by reading about it in this edition of Hlas.
