In March 1932 the Engineers Building auditorium was the site of a rally sponsored by the International Labor Defense to obtain the release from prisons of two wrongly convicted youths, Ollen Montgomery and Thomas Mooney. Montgomery was one of the nine Scottsboro boys, who, based solely on their race, had been wrongly convicted of raping two white women in Alabama. Their trial has been said to have been the inspiration for Harper Lee's novel To Kill a Mockingbird. | Date: 1932 | Source: Cleveland Memory, Michael Schwartz Library Special Collections at Cleveland State UniversityDownload Original File
