Mary Perry Payne (1818-1895)

Mary Perry Payne (1818-1895)
The only daughter of Nathan Perry Jr., she was born in the Perry family home and then located near the northwest corner of what is today the intersection of Superior Avenue and West 9th Street. She spent most of her childhood there until her family moved into one of Euclid Avenue's mansions in 1830. In 1836, she married Henry B. Payne, a young attorney who had moved to Cleveland just several years earlier. She and Henry Payne were married for nearly 60 years. The date of this portrait as well as the name of the artist who painted are unknown. | Source: Frick Digital Collections
