Mary Bigelow Ingham (1832-1923)
A pioneer feminist, Ingham was a charter member of the national Women's Christian Temperance Union in which she served as its first Secretary. She was a prolific writer, often writing under the pen name of Anne Hathaway. As a young woman, she taught French, Italian and Spanish at Ohio Wesleyan College. She was an artist, and was one of the founders of Western Reserve School of Design, which later became the Cleveland Institute of Art. In 1866, she married Cleveland book seller and publisher, W. A. Ingham, residing with him until his death in 1898. After her husband died, Ingham moved to Oberlin, Ohio, and later to Los Angeles where she died in 1923. This photo of her was taken in 1893. | Source: Wikipedia
