The modern conveniences boasted of by the Rocky River Dry Dock Company in their advertisement were key to revival of the wooden ship building industry during World War I. Compressed air, beveling and planing machines, pneumatic equipment, generators, portable power tools, electricity-powered sawmills and mechanic caulkers all assisted in reducing labor and increasing efficiency. Shipbuilding yards were planned and equipped to cut down on lost motion and utilize untrained labor.
