Future Location of the Elysium
The Elysium was open to public ahead of schedule because the decision was made "to put the ice on the bare ground, instead of building a floor for it to rest on." In addition, the Elysium managers took matters into their own hands when construction crews estimated that it would take at least " a week to freeze the ice." The managers "secured several tons of cracked ice and sprinkled it over the ground, covering" the twelve miles of pipes that had been "coiled on the floor." They "then...opened up the valves and turned the compound of brine and ammonia into the pipes and then flushed just enough water to make an even surface." | Creator: The Humphrey Family | Date: ca. 1906-07 | Source: Cleveland State University, Michael Schwartz Library, Special Collections
