Ohio State Reformatory

Ohio State Reformatory
Among the types of buildings, for which Levi Scofield acquired fame as an architect, were penitentiaries. In 1886, he designed the Ohio State Reformatory at Mansfield (shown in this 1900-1910 postcard) as an "intermediate" penitentiary for young offenders. Scofield also designed the Athens, Ohio Lunatic Aylum (1868) and the North Carolina State Penitentiary in Raleigh (1870). | Creator: Ohio History Connection
