German Martyrdom of St Vitus, ca. 1450
The story goes that the Emperor Diocletian was not well pleased when he could not convince the young Vitus to renounce Christianity and worship the Roman gods. Among the tortures Vitus was subjected to was an immersion into a vat of boiling oil, from which he emerged unscathed-much to the consternation of the Romans. | Creator: Unknown | Date: ca. 1450 | Source: Dorota Folja-Januszewska
