Where It Began
Many of the members of the McCart Street Gang originally lived in the Triangle, also called the "Angle," a triangular area of short streets and ramshackle houses on Cleveland's near west side, whose boundaries were loosely formed by the streets of Old River Avenue, Hanover (West 29th) Street and Division Avenue. It is likely that a number of the members of the McCart Street Gang, including notably one of its early leaders, Foxy Gorman, were members of a notorious gang from that neighborhood, called the Triangle Gang, before their families moved to West Cleveland. This March 6, 1890 Plain Dealer article provides a sketch of the Triangle--as the editors saw it.
