State of the Art Design
This sketch taken from the Engineer's report in the 1898 Annual Cleveland Report reveals that the design of the Walworth Run Sewer was a combination sewer for the transportation of both waste water and storm water. As it neared the Cuyahoga River near Barber Avenue, the sewer was designed to separate into two chambers--one to carry waste water to an interceptor that emptied into Lake Erie, and the other to carry storm water to an outlet in the Cuyahoga River.
