Following George Kimble's campaign to bring Balto and six of his teammates to Cleveland, the seven dogs lived out the remainder of their lives as celebrities at the city zoo. A bronze tablet and granite monument inscribed with their names was dedicated in 1931. Originally erected to be a roster of heroic dogs and act as a shrine for animal lovers in Cleveland, the monument would eventually be remembered as the gravestone of the dog pack. | Source: Cleveland State University.
