Save Balto Campaign, 1927 ID: 5943 | This file appears in: Balto vs. the Alaskan Black Death To raise the necessary funds to save Balto and his teammates from a life as museum showpieces, George Kimble's campaign placed collection boxes throughout Cleveland in hotel lobbies, drug stores, the public square, restaurants, and cigar shops. Within ten days, over $2300.00 was collected. On March 19, 1927, the seven dogs were greeted with a parade through public square before being taken to their new home at the Brookside Zoo.
