The Carner Cubs, 1907
Within the context of the Progressive Movement, amateur baseball was thought to promote urban regeneration. Games offered poor and young men an opportunity for exercise on the weekend, and the sport was considered to be a positive form of recreation. In addition to its positive effects on the citizenry, the construction of baseball diamonds was a means to physically enhance the character of the city's blighted sections. | Date: 1907 | Source: Cleveland State University.
