Baseball at Brookside Park

Baseball at Brookside Park
Until the turn of the 20th century, the legality of playing baseball in parks on Sundays was in question. A vague Ohio statute associated with the Sunday Labor Law was occasionally enforced by the police, although usually with underlying motives. In 1904, police courts conceded that Sunday amateur baseball was permitted on the condition that players would not play for compensation. | Source: Cleveland State University.
