In 1983, the city of Edmonton, Canada came together to memorialize those who lost their lives in the Holodomor Famine. This particular monument has particular importance because it was the first monument created in memory of the Holodomor famine in the world. Canada is one of the nations that officially recognize the Holodomor as a genocide.
