Born in 1865, Chief Thunderwater began working for the preservation of his fellow American Indians' culture and rights after 1883. Before his humanitarian work began, Chief Thunderwater performed in Buffalo Bill Cody's Wild West shows for nine years. In 1940, Chief Thunderwater, also known as Oghema Niagara, took part in Erie Street Cemetery's Re-dedication Ceremony.
