A New Story, 1883
This excerpt from page 123 of Harvey Rice's "Pioneers of the Western Reserve" (Boston and New York: Lee and Shephard Publisher, 1883) reveals the details of the new version of Black Hawk's trip to Cleveland in 1833 that circulated in the city in the post-Civil War period. It featured an alleged canoe trip by Black Hawk up the Cuyahoga River to visit the grave of his mother on the grounds of Riverside Cemetery. | Date: 1883 | Source: Cleveland State University Library Special Collections
