Frank Jirouch was born in Cleveland in 1876 to parents who emigrated from Bohemia. Jirouch's father was a knife maker. Jirouch learned wood carving, plasterwork, and architectural modeling in his studies in Cleveland, Philadelphia, and Paris. In 1902, he and wood carver George J. Fischer partnered in the creation of Fischer & Jirouch, an architectural ornament manufacturing firm that became Cleveland's oldest such surviving business and one of only a handful in the United States by the late 20th century. He also won numerous commissions to design sculptures locally, nationally, and internationally. Jirouch died in 1970. | Source: Emil F.
