Women Assembling Hats

The Cleveland Press caption reads: "A group of hand sewers putting the final trimming on the new spring bonnets." In an era where one always wore a hat when leaving the house, women could show off their social status or wealth by wearing ornate hats made of luxury materials. Hart & Co. moved a few blocks away after the fire and remained prominent from 1900 to 1920.
