In the late 19th and early 20th centuries, a country estate occupied the land where Glenville High School has stood since 1966. The estate belonged to John R. Blakeslee, who was the mayor of Glenville when it was a village prior to being annexed into Cleveland. Blakeslee served in the Union Army during the Civil War and headed a Cleveland iron foundry. | Date: 1903 | Source: Knight, Thomas A. The Country Estates of Cleveland Men. Cleveland: Thomas A.
