From 1915 until about 1930, Market Square was officially known as "United Market Square," to distinguish it from a Market Square that then existed on Cleveland's east side, near the Broadway (or Newburgh) Market , a public market which was located at the corner of Broadway and Canton from 1879 to 1963.
