Kentucky Street School

Kentucky Street School
Located on Kentucky (West 38th) Street, just south of Franklin Avenue (Boulevard), Kentucky Street School was the neighborhood public elementary school for children living on Franklin Avenue. Ella Grant Wilson attended the school from 1862 to 1867. She was a "desk mate" of Julia Castle, daughter of former Cleveland and Ohio City mayor William Castle. In 1880, Julia Castle married Charles C. Bolton of Cleveland's wealthy and prominent Bolton family and moved into a grand house on Euclid Avenue. In her book, Famous old Euclid Avenue of Cleveland, Wilson does not disclose whether she provided the flower arrangements for the Bolton-Castle wedding. | Source: Cleveland State University, Michael Schwartz Library, Special Collections
