Where Chestnut Street (Chester Avenue) Began

Where Chestnut Street (Chester Avenue) Began
This 1928 photograph of Chester Avenue was taken facing eastward from East Ninth Street. Just one year before it was taken, Cleveland finally completed construction of a new section of Chester Avenue from East 30th Street to East 40th Street that made it a continuous roadway from East Ninth Street to East 55th Street. It would take another decade before Chester Avenue was extended from East 55th all the way to University Circle. | Source: Cleveland Public Library, Digital Photograph Collection
