CoventrYard, 1977
In 1977, the GEAR Foundation rented three rooms in the CoventrYard building, on the northwest corner of Euclid Heights Boulevard and Coventry Road. Here they debuted the Gay Community Center, in addition to housing GEAR’s office and its hotline for the gay community, which provided support and information about local events, organizations, and services. The building was destroyed by fire in February 1978. The man in the photograph is Lewis Zipkin, the building’s developer. | Date: 1977 | Source: Cleveland Public Library Photograph Collection.
