The Who, who were touring for their epic album Tommy appeared on June 27, 1970. This show had a very striking Cleveland connection, as well as a rather unusual lineup. One of two opening acts was James Taylor, who was a solo act, performing with just his acoustic guitar and a stool. Also on the bill was the local act the James Gang, who famously were formed in Cleveland, and included musical legend Joe Walsh. An unusual lineup, yet fascinating in that Cleveland’s musical connections reached even British hard rock groups like The Who.
