Overcrowding leads to new addition
In the 1930s, classes were so crowded at West High that students often had to stand in classrooms. This 1932 photo shows a typewriting class with only enough seats for two-thirds of the attending students. Overcrowding was alleviated in 1937 with the construction of a four-story addition to the original West High school building. | Source: Cleveland State University, Michael Schwartz Library, Special Collections
