Road Construction near the new Detroit-Superior Bridge
This 1917 photo shows work being done at the intersection of Detroit Avenue and West 25th Street near the western terminus of the Detroit-Superior Bridge--also known as the High Level Bridge. On the left is the Forest City Bank building, which still stands on the southwest corner of that intersection. Across Detroit Avenue from it can be seen another building, which was one of several razed that year to make room for the fan-shaped entrance way onto Bulkley Boulevard (today, the Shoreway). The piece of land left after construction of the entrance way became a little park which, in the decades that followed, was dedicated on two different occasions to two different legendary Clevelanders. | Source: Cleveland State University, Michael Schwartz Library, Special Collections
