The Island at Scenic Park

The Island at Scenic Park
Situated in flood plains along the Rocky River, the land set aside as recreation grounds by the Clifton Park Association was not suited for residential construction. Major floods inundated the grounds of Scenic Park in 1901, 1902, and 1904. Despite being tethered to their foundation, small booths, stands, and rifle ranges were washed away in the currents. Due to the regularity of flooding, all structures at the park were made of wood in order that they could be easily replaced. | Source: Courtesy of Cleveland State University Library Special Collections
