Butchers' Picnic and Barbecue

Enclosed amusement parks regularly hosted picnics sponsored by Cleveland social organizations. The clubs generally received money for ticket sales; in return, they helped lure sizable crowds onto the recreation grounds. Cleveland amusement parks competed to hold events such as the Butchers' and Marketmens' Association picnic, which drew up to 20,000 visitors to Scenic Park in 1895.
