WPA Rebuilds Brookside Park, ca. 1938

In 1938, 3,600 WPA laborers worked in Brookside Park to remodel the zoo and develop an athletic center. The athletic field contained a swimming pool, eight baseball diamonds, eleven tennis courts, a football field, a running track and parking for 2,000 cars.
