Preserving Local History

Preserving Local History
In the 1960s, the Shaker Historical Society, in a program designed to encourage the Shaker Heights community to preserve its heritage, began offering the general public tours of the community's historic homes. One of the favorite tour stops, as noted in this 1961 article from the Cleveland Plain Dealer, was the Jacob Strong home at 18829 Fairmount Boulevard. John A. Hecker, whose grandfather John Hecker purchased the house, along with its dairy farm, from Jacob Strong in 1853, often participated in these tours. | Source: Shaker Historical Society
