On November 28, 1921, as this article from the Cleveland Plain Dealer reveals, armed gunmen attacked the Jacob Strong home, which was then owned by controversial Baptist minister William W. Bustard. Bustard, who was not home at the time, escaped injury. It was believed by many that the attack was in response to Bustard's fiery condemnation of former Cleveland police chief Fred Kohler, who just weeks earlier had been elected Mayor of Cleveland.
