Shakers Bleaching Wool, 1876

Shakers Bleaching Wool, 1876
While Shaker communities aimed to be self-sufficient, they needed to supplement their income by selling products to the outside world. In North Union, for example, a two-story water-powered woolen factory was erected in 1854; both stocking yarn and clothing was sold to Warrensville and Cleveland residents.
