In this page taken from the 1920 United States census, John Hotz is listed as a saloon keeper. He and his wife are identified as immigrants from Galicia with their mother language listed as "Russian." Many Rusyn ethnics were incorrectly tagged with the similar-sounding word "Russian" by census takers. Moreover, some Rusyns who became members of Russian Orthodox churches like Tremont's St. Theodosius began to identify themselves as ethnic Russians thereby compounding the confusion.
