The 246 students of Notre Dame College staged a canned food drive that collected 6,424 cans to donate to the Notre Dame convent in the Netherlands for distribution to the needy. The average donation was 26 cans per student, and the Class of 1949 (sophomores) won the contest to see which class collected the most. They collected an average of 48 cans per student.
